Understand and assess the quality of pharmacoeconomic models
Pharmacoeconomic modeling is widely used in health technology assessment and the value demonstration of new technologies as it provides a quantitative framework for the synthesis of evidence from a variety of sources to estimate expected costs and benefits. As these models support decision-making regarding the cost-effectiveness and value of such technologies, it is important that they are transparent and of ‘good’ quality.
Technical topics include:
- Steps for assessing the quality of pharmacoeconomic models.
- Technical checks regarding the ‘wiring’ of the model.
- Assessment of analytical techniques used to generate model inputs and outputs.
- Importance of strategic review and assessment.
- Published guidance, including the ‘Drummond’ and ‘Philips’ checklists.
- Discussion of ISPOR Consolidated Health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards (CHEERS).
This course includes hands-on exercises and tools that can be immediately applied, including:
- Practical application of quality assessment steps in pharmacoeconomic models.
- Exercises demonstrating technical checks and analytical techniques.
- Strategic review and assessment exercises based on published guidance.
Participants who wish to participate in hands-on exercises must have Microsoft Excel for Windows installed on their computers.
