On November 22nd and 23rd, from 9am to 5pm (UTC-3), the 2nd Brazilian Forum of Health Technology Assessment for Rare Diseases will be held. The event takes place in person in São Paulo, at Blue Tree Premium Morumbi, with live broadcast and simultaneous translation into English and Spanish. Registration is free and can be done at eventos.congresse.me/forumats23. In-person spaces are limited.
With over 1300 registrants already from more than 10 countries, plus 60 supporting organizations from 7 countries, the event already has big names confirmed in the program, such as the president of the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology (SBPT), Dr. Margareth Dalcolmo, Senator Fabiano Contarato, the Executive Secretary of the Medicines Market Regulation Chamber of the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), Daniela Marreco Cerqueira, the access and pricing manager at Sindusfarma, Marcela Amaral Pontes, the analyst at the Health Program of the Brazilian Institute of Consumer Protection (Idec), Marina de Almeida Magalhães, the pulmonologist at the Heart Institute of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, Dr. Rodrigo Athanazio, among other big names. Natalia Cuminale, from Futuro da Saúde, will mediate all panels.
Event schedule
On November 22nd (Wednesday), speakers will debate innovations for rare diseases and access in public and private healthcare; HTA, social engagement and the ethical dimension in decision-making; the paths to generating real-world evidence; and the challenges of access and sustainability in the Brazilian universal public health system.
On the second day, November 23rd (Thursday), the debates will address social control in the public health systema, cross-cutting themes and health education to qualify the HTA process. Founder and executive director of Unidos pela Vida, Verônica Stasiak Bednarczuk de Oliveira highlights that the entire program was designed to encompass all stakeholders involved in the rare diseases scenario in Brazil.
“The Forum was designed for everyone to participate. We are expecting health professionals, students, technologists and government representatives, but also people diagnosed with rare diseases, family members, caregivers and patient advocacy groups. We have no doubt that all the discussions will make us reflect on the challenges we face daily and the role of each of us in overcoming them”, said Verônica.
