The 8th Meeting of ISPOR Brazil Chapter took place on June 29th, 2023 in Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The meeting was held at Farol Santander, a former bank agency and a historic building in the old part of the city which today is a center for articulation, integration, documentation, and dissemination of contemporary art produced in the country. The meeting marked the return of face-to-face ISPOR Brazilian chapter meeting in the post-pandemic scenario. There were more than 300 participants who attended the event, from several places.
The event was divided into four plenary sessions and a satellite symposium. In the opening session, Karla Eisenhart, from ISPOR International the local president, Dr Stephen Stefani, welcomed and presented the importance of ISPOR and an overview of the state of health technology analysis (HTA) in Brazil and worldwide.

- Will the cost-effectiveness threshold meet everyone's expectations?
In this plenary session, our vice-president, Wilson Follador, conducted a fruitful discussion with Professor Giacomo Balbinotto Neto (School of Economy at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul), Rodrigo Antonini Ribeiro (HTAnalyze) and Ana Paula Beck da Silva Etges (Pontificia Universidade Católica).
- Real-world data: what is missing for us to use it?
This plenary session featured two members of the board of directors of the ISPOR Brazil Chapter, Dr Marcos Santos and Dr Elio Tanaka, in addition to guests Dr João Paulo Reis Neto (Capesesp) and Cesar Abicalaffe (Instituto Brasileiro de Valor em Saude)
- HTA in the high-cost era: where are we?
Dr Juliana Martinho Busch led the debate together with researchers Evelinda Trindade and Fotini Santos Toscas, both from CONITEC, an HTA branch in Brazilian Ministry of Health.
- Innovation in health: a pragmatic agenda to overcome budget barriers
This plenary was presented by the Brazilian Chapter president Dr Stephen Stefani, and had the participation of Ana Cristina Marques Martins and Ana Cecilia Faveret, from the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS).
The congress was considered a success by the public and organizers. Particularly notable for this event was a significant increase in student participation. At the end of the meeting, the Save the Date for São Paulo / June 2024 was announced.
