Abstract
Pain is one of the main determinants of the burden of disease around the globe because of its direct impact on health-related quality of life. After its inclusion in the International Classification of Diseases version 11, the study of pain and its health, economic, and social consequences has grown significantly.1 Among all conditions, musculoskeletal pain has been identified as one of the top 5 causes of disability-adjusted life-years,2 and low back pain is known to be the top cause of years lived with disability worldwide. In this context, adequate treatment of pain is essential to improve health outcomes at the population level.
