Evidence Summaries of Medicines USED for the Treatment of COVID-19: Ukrainian Information Platform

OBJECTIVES: World challenges caused by COVID-19 outbreak and variety of information concerning coronavirus treatment options require timely and reliable information from the official sources and improvement of tools to inform decision making in healh care. The aim of the study was to present the development of information platform for medicines for COVID-19 by the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine that is available to all stakeholders, whether healthcare professionals or members of the public. METHODS: The State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has launched a special project in April 2020 - an official information resource which comprises evidence summaries for medicines that are currently used for the treatment of COVID-19. The project was created to disseminate evidence based information information, systematized by experts of HTA Department based on recommendations of WHO, ECDC, CDC and official governmental and regulatory agencies publications, including FDA, EMA, as well as national clinical guidelines and treatment protocols. RESULTS: Currently, the information resource covers 6 main topics with overall 19 summaries: antiseptics, antipyretics (ibuprofen, paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid), antivirals (remdesivir, lopinavir/ritonavir, favipiravir), medicines that affect the immune response (tocilizumab, hydroxychloroquine, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG)), antibiotics and medicines for non-communicable diseases (treatment of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, oncology). The list could be accessed here: covid19.dec.gov.ua. The information platform comprises up-to-date and available information on the COVID-19 treatment as evidence from more than 50 countries affected by COVID-19 and is processed daily. CONCLUSIONS: This project supported synthesis of information and evidence development for treatment of COVID-19 based on the international practice and highlighted importance of HTA use in the healthcare system in Ukraine for the achieving highest value for patients.
