ISPOR Stands With Ukraine

Published Mar 2, 2022

Lawrenceville, NJ, USA—March 2, 2022—As a scientific and educational nonprofit and the leading professional society for health economics and outcomes research globally, ISPOR rarely comments on issues not directly related to healthcare. The unprecedented military attack on Ukraine, however, requires a Society response.

As we witness the horrific events unfolding in Ukraine, we are reminded of the importance of freedom of thought, independence, diversity, and collaboration—not simply as the foundation for science, but more importantly as the basis for human interaction. As a global scientific society, ISPOR condemns the aggression taking place in Ukraine. Our thoughts and prayers for strength are with the Ukrainian people during this dark time. ISPOR extends its support to our affected colleagues who are both important members of the global scientific community and our family.

ISPOR’s mission is to promote health economics and outcomes research excellence to improve decision making for health globally. It goes without saying that an unprovoked war on a democratic country impacts our Society’s commitment to global health. As we stand with Ukraine and our dear friends and colleagues in the region, we find comfort in a quote by Louis Pasteur, “Science and peace will triumph over ignorance and war.”
