The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped the lives and livelihoods of people all over the world. Accurate data about the disease and economic impacts are critical to developing an effective response by governments. However, policy choices require judgments about the relative importance of many different potential outcomes.
Understanding stakeholder priorities whether at the government, system, or individual level is of the utmost importance. All of these stakeholder decisions can be informed by preference data - from the national governments’ distribution of limited resources either towards preventative measures or toward vaccine discovery, to hospitals defining the optimal use of telemedicine, or individual citizens’ willingness to accept immunization with fast-tracked vaccines. Many preference researchers have been quick to respond to this need and have conducted empirical COVID-19 studies to better understand the value of health and health-related policies.
Learning Objectives: During the presentation speakers will
- Provide an overview of ongoing COVID-19-related preference studies;
- Illustrate how preference methods can support our response to COVID-19;
- Highlight 3 specific examples from The Netherlands, France, and the UK; and
- Discuss the transferability of the study results to other countries and lessons learned for future COVID-19 preference research.
