Shirley Wang has been working with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Sentinel Program since 2011. She was a key developer of scalable software tools which implement advanced methods for confounding control and are now in use by the FDA for active drug safety surveillance of marketed medical products. She recently co-led a joint task force for the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) focused on ‘real world’ evidence for healthcare decision-making. In 2017, she launched the REPEAT Initiative, a non-profit program with projects aimed at improving transparency, reproducibility and robustness of evidence from healthcare databases. She was also a writing group member for a National Academy of Medicine white paper on open science.
