Dr. Williams is the Acting Director, ClinicalTrials.gov at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. She moved into this role after serving as the Assistant Director of ClinicalTrials.gov for more than a decade. She is responsible for technical, scientific, policy, regulatory and outreach activities related to the operation of ClinicalTrials.gov, an international registry and results database of clinical research. Her research interests relate to improving the quality of reporting of clinical research. Her prior experience includes regulatory affairs consultant and reviewer and supervisory roles at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the area of prescription drug advertising and promotion. She received her Pharm.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and MPH from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.
