Dr. Paul Tappenden is a Reader in Health Economic Modelling within the Health Economics and Decision Science Section at ScHARR. He has over 14 years’ experience in designing, developing, and critically appraising health economic models across many disease areas. Since joining ScHARR in 2000, Paul has been involved in a number of research studies for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), including assessments of therapies for multiple sclerosis, influenza prophylaxis, ulcerative colitis, cystic fibrosis, and colorectal cancer. Paul has a special interest in modelling the cost-effectiveness of technologies for the prevention, detection, treatment, and follow-up of colorectal cancer. Paul has also undertaken modelling assessments for the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), the Advisory Group for National Specialised Services (AGNSS), the Department of Health and NHS Cancer Screening Programmes, including an options appraisal of colorectal cancer screening programmes. Paul is a member of the NICE Decision Support Unit (DSU) and also a member of NICE Technology Appraisal Committee C.
