Julian Karaguesian currently works as Special Advisor to the New Approaches to Economic Challenges (NAEC) unit at the OECD. Previously, he served as Special Advisor in the International Trade and Finance Branch at the Canadian Ministry of Finance, working on a wide range of global political-economy issues, including the future of the Rules-Based International Order, the economic implications of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the longer-term macroeconomic and structural impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, new economic thinking and its applications to policy, and global reserve currency dynamics – among others. Julian served twice as Finance Counsellor in Canadian embassies: in Berlin from 1999-2003 and in Washington DC from 2007-2011. Since 2018, Julian has been teaching international finance, history of economic thought and issues related to new economic thinking in the Department of Economics at McGill University in Montreal. He has also worked at Export Development Canada and Natural Resources Canada while on secondment from the Finance Ministry.
